Control Systems Engineer
POSITION SUMMARY
The Control Systems Engineer will have a thorough understanding of PLC automated machine control systems and assume a key role in driving continuous improvement of our manufacturing processes. The individual will utilize their technical expertise in electrical process control technologies to support and improve automated process equipment. This role will also assist with the design and development of control systems for new equipment.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Support maintenance and engineering teams in troubleshooting of PLC controlled production machinery.
Update and improve control software and hardware in existing equipment.
Provide hardware and software design and the development of process control systems for new and retrofitted equipment.
Design and document electrical control schematics.
Specify electrical components including PLCs, HMIs, relays, transformers, transducers, servos, safety switches, and enclosures.
Layout, design, and build electrical panels.
Interface electrical controls with pneumatic, hydraulic, servo, and mechanical actuators.
Create user and maintenance manuals for new equipment.
EDUCATION/Certifications:
BS in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, or related field. Six Sigma Certification a plus
EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS:
3-5 years of similar systems engineering experience
Experience in programming Rockwell/Allen- Bradley PLCs and HMIs using RSlogix software. Experience with GE Fanuc, Koyo, Siemans, and Omron PLCs a plus.
Strong hands-on mechanical and electrical aptitude.
Knowledge of NEMA standards.
Familiar with OSHA machine safety and guarding regulations.
Able to create electrical schematics and control panel drawings to accepted standards.
Experience with servo and stepper motor drive systems.
Working knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
CNC machine tool control troubleshooting a plus.
Extensive knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles and tools
Advanced computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office and CAD solid modeling.
Knowledge of machining processes. CNC programming experience a plus.
Working knowledge of fluid power systems and electrical controls.
