NDT X-Ray Tech Level I
4 – 10 hr. days
Under routine supervision, position and shoot X-Ray of parts that we manufacture, develops film and perform higher level classification interpretation.
Functions and Responsibilities
Start-up all equipment used and shoots x-ray calibration daily to ensure proper specification.
Accurately checks and maintains all temperature and pressure gauges.
Accurately completes traveler (printed tracking document).
Interprets X-ray techniques and processes as required.
Determines and marks castings for salvage.
Operates X-ray machine, developer, and densitometry to ensure proper quality control.
Follows established housekeeping and safety practices to maintain the quality of the work environment.
Performs related work requiring equal or lesser skill as directed.
Develops and/or approves complex x-ray ‘shooting’ sketches and techniques used by other x-ray personnel. • Responsible for training and testing lower classification personnel.
Develops x-ray techniques for department personnel to follow.
Interprets films and certifies conformance of castings to customer requirements.
Schedules work in x-ray inspection area and acts to direct work-flow.
Troubleshoots equipment problems and malfunctions and maintains effective maintenance programs for all equipment, operates all equipment as required.
Interfaces with engineering and management, and proposes corrective action to solve problems. • Completes all necessary records and develops logs and other records to assure compliance to specifications.
Reports discrepancies to management/supervisor as required.
Follows all established housekeeping and safety practices to maintain the quality of the work environment.
Performs equipment calibrations as necessary.
Maintains/generates related, graphs, records and reports. Frequent interaction with customers and source inspectors. Analyzes shots taken with the aid of a viewer, to accept or reject x-ray plates in accordance with standards set by Quality Control.
Performs other duties of equal, greater or lesser complexity as required by the position or as assigned by supervision.
■ Requires ability to accurately read, write, interpret and follow verbal and written instructions normally acquired by completing high school. Must complete specialized training in learning to operate equipment and successfully pass an examination for NDT qualification.
■ A minimum of 3 months as a trainee in this classification and successful completion of Level I certification training and testing or equivalent. Some prior shop experience preferred to understand shop practices and procedures.
■ Individual must document that he/she has completed the current departmental job qualification requirements form.
