Overview:

Inspects and assesses incoming collections using reasonable judgment in order to make a purchase recommendation based on established company quality guidelines. Represents a positive company image through professional and friendly communication in person, via telephone and in writing. Note: Some or all of the functions listed below require access to sensitive customer data including but not limited to credit card information. While performing such functions, adherence to all information security policies outlined in the Employee Handbook is mandatory.

Responsibilities:

Collection Buying:

  • Acts as liaison between private collectors/prospective coin sellers and the company. Handles product identification and value questions (with technical assistance from buyers when required).
  • Builds and maintains excellent working relationships with prospective collection sellers.
  • Manages telephone, e-mail and written inquiries from other departments within the organization, customers and general public as it relates to coin identification, values, availability and requests to sell (US/foreign coins and currency).
  • Responsible for processing customer buy backs and offers.
  • Responsible for prospective walk-in customer offers and purchases.
  • Responds to inbound phone inquiries from prospective sellers in a skillful and prompt manner.
  • Organizes and prices material for purchase using established pricing guidelines and reference materials.
  • Breaks down collections after purchase using guidelines established by the Buyers with specific notation to product cost and rarity.

Wholesale Inventory (excludes B2B):

  • Responsible for dealer wholesale transactions dealers as directed by buyers or manager.
  • Responsible for maintaining the wholesale room (sorting, organizing).
  • Responsible for wholesale inventory accuracy and periodic physical inventories.

Product Handling:

  • Responsible for the finalization and verification of each purchase to prepare it for department handling.
  • Responsible for SKU reassignment from wholesale to ensure accurate costs and SKU assignment for all products.
  • Receives graded material for SKU reassignment. Inspects for accurate identification of quantities, types, dates and mintmarks utilizing reference guides supplied by the company.
  • Responsible for accurate entry of all product cost (verifying $150 +retail).
  • Performs final check of collections and buybacks before delivered to retail area to include final quantity verification, returns and adjustments, product labeling, counting and other functions as needed.
  • Responsible for accurate identification of all coin types, varieties and mint marks utilizing reference guides, supplied by the company.
  • Develops knowledge of all products offered by utilizing resources available.
  • Through on the job training will understand product value and learn to evaluate collections quickly and efficiently.
  • Sorts coins by date and mintmark.
  • Adheres to company time documentation policies including appropriate utilization of time clock and employee identification badge.
  • Responsible to assist in maintaining the cleanliness of the department.
  • Back up to Dealer Liaison (phone calls, etc)
  • Makes arrangements to send coins to auction for consignment.

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • Two years college or training equivalent.
  • Three to five years commercial experience, customer service a plus.
  • Working knowledge of Red Book, Blue Book and Grey Sheets. (will provide)
  • Knowledge of Coin Dealer Market, US/foreign coins and banknotes. (will provide)
  • Working knowledge of PC’s and their applications, including internet and e-mail.
  • Basic telephone techniques training (will provide).
  • Familiarity with numismatics preferred.

  • PC literate
  • 20/20 corrected vision with intact color discrimination (basic and shades of color)
